Mahaffey: Make sure to make complete stops

Our school buses are once again on the roads, and we kindly remind everyone that when the red lights are flashing and the stop signs are extended on a school bus, all vehicle and bicycle traffic must come to a complete stop. This is critical as we load and unload students, ensuring their safety.

Unfortunately, we’ve observed an increasing number of vehicles and bicycles ignoring these signals, putting the lives of our children at serious risk. We understand that it can be frustrating to be delayed behind a bus. However, while we may occasionally slow traffic, the safety of our students is always our top priority.

We ask for your cooperation in helping us protect our children by stopping for school buses whenever the signals are active.

Additionally, please be aware that on the west end of Aspen, two school buses service the Red Brick area at Hallam and Garmisch. This particular stop involves more than 50 students and can take up to 5 minutes or longer in the afternoon. To avoid delays, we recommend considering an alternate route between 3:40 PM and 3:50 PM on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday and between 2:10 PM and 2:20 PM on Wednesdays.

Thank you for your understanding and commitment to keeping our children safe.
