Friends of Marolt: Mischaracterization

We are writing to correct mayoral candidate Rachel Richards’ repeated mischaracterization of Friends of Marolt Parks & Open Space during Squirm Night.
Friends of Marolt is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit that has worked to protect the Marolt Open Space from bad ideas for more than four decades. We were created in the 1990s with the mission of protecting one of Aspen’s most unique public spaces, and we have worked over the years to ensure that it remains open for passive, low-impact uses by residents and visitors.
Richards’ characterization of Friends of Marolt as a political organization was wrong, and in our opinion, malicious. She has engaged with our organization as an elected official since the 1990s and knows better.
