Bell: Richards for mayor

As Aspen faces crucial decisions about its future, we need experienced leadership that respects our culture while maintaining a clear-eyed understanding of the challenges ahead. That’s why I’m supporting Rachael Richards for mayor.
During her 30 years as an Aspen community leader, she has demonstrated an exceptional ability to work with diverse teams to deliver real results. She has been an integral driving force behind countless improvements to our community, including:
• Developing affordable housing at Burlingame Ranch, Truscott Addition, and Aspen Country Inn (for seniors)
• Establishing the Healthy Rivers and Streams Fund
• Transforming RFTA into a Regional Transportation Authority with valley-wide funding
• Creating the Aspen Recreation Center
• Securing the Red and Yellow Brick schools for childcare, non-profits, and the arts
• Increasing Open Space and Trails funding to save Bass Park and protect Sky Mountain Park
These vital improvements have shaped the exceptional community we’re proud to call home. They demonstrate what’s possible when leadership focuses on the needs of the entire community rather than powerful special interests.
Looking ahead, Aspen faces critical challenges — from housing affordability and environmental stewardship to traffic congestion and the growing threat of wildfires. As mayor, Rachael will hit the ground running with vast experience and integrity. Her proven ability to work collaboratively and commitment to pragmatic solutions based on facts and expert analysis, rather than yielding to narrow special interests, will bring an end to political “can-kicking” and deliver real results for all of Aspen.
