The 2025 Aspen municipal election is underway. Mayoral candidates include Katy Frisch and Rachel Richards, who are vying for a vacant seat left by Mayor Torre’s final mayoral term.
Meanwhile, there are six candidates running for two regular seats on Aspen City Council. Ward Hauenstein is termed out, while incumbent John Doyle is vying to retain his seat. Despite Torre’s mayoral seat being termed out, he is currently running for a council seat.
In addition to Doyle and Torre, council candidates include Christine Benedetti, Emily Kolbe, Scot Woolley, and Tyler Wilkinson-Ray.
Meanwhile, the voters are being asked whether they support Referendum 1 or Referendum 2.
Referendum 1 seeks to raise the voter threshold for changes to city-owned parks and open spaces from a simple majority of 50% plus one to 60%.
Referendum 2 seeks to grant the Colorado Department of Transportation a permanent easement over the entirety of the Marolt Open Space, effectively removing the conditions currently tied to the Preferred Alternative for the Entrance to Aspen.
