The National Day of Prayer will offer community members the chance to gather in Paepcke Park and join millions of Americans across the country who are participating.
The theme for 2025 is, “Pour Out to the God of Hope and Be Filled!” According to the National Day of Prayer’s official website, the theme is inspired by the scripture in Romans 15:13, encouraging individuals and groups to “pray together and seek God’s guidance for the nation.”
Aspenites Pam and John, former Aspen High School teacher for 54 years, Fisher have organized the observance, which will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, May 1. The Fishers have hosted the event for a number of years.
“John and I have hosted it for quite a few years,” Pam said. “John has taught at Aspen High School for 54 years, woodworking and drafting.”
Chairs, blankets, snacks, water, and worship music will be provided as those who attend have the opportunity to pray for media, arts and entertainment, government leaders, the military, churches, families, education, and other topics.
“Many are concerned about the future of America and our city,” the National Day of Prayer Task Force stated in a press release. “We see more violence and struggles in everyday life as our culture moves further away from the source of our strength. All through history, America has turned to God in times of conflict and in peace.”
According to the release, the National Day of Prayer was established by law in 1952. It was amended in 1988 to a permanently designated observance on the first Thursday of May every year. President Donald Trump will issue a proclamation on this day, as is tradition each year for the U.S. President.
While people of all faiths are invited to attend, the event is Christian-based.
