A popular cross-country skiing series competition returns to ring in the new year at Snowmass.

The second race of the Ute Nordic Cup, called the Snowmass Slip N Slide Classic, is slated for Sunday, Jan. 5. The events include 5/10Ks for all ages and 1/3Ks for juniors.

Mass start begins at 9 a.m. for the  5/10K races, while the 1/3K races begin at 10 a.m. Competitors meet at the tracks just outside of the Snowmass Golf Club Course Pro Shop, 239 Snowmass Club Circle.

Race registration is available online at https://www.skireg.com/snowmass-slipnslide-classic-race until 8 a.m. race day. Race fees are $15 before 10 a.m. and $25 after 10 a.m. Jan. 4.

Bib pickup is at 7:30-8:30 a.m. on race day. Results announcements and a raffle (for race participants) will be held right after the event.

For this event, use the Rodeo Grounds Parking Lot and walk up the road to the pro shop — do not park at the pro shop, a news release states.

The distances are approximate. The race loop is 2.8K. The 10K will do three laps, 5K will do two laps and the 3k will do one lap. There is a 1-kilometer cut-off for the 1-kilometer course.

Race results will also be available immediately after the race through the Aspen Valley Ski and Snowboard Club timing system. A link will be provided at the race finish.

The Ute Nordic Cup series kicked off with the “Ute Series Skate Off the Cobwebs” event at Aspen High School on Dec. 8. Further races following the Snowmass event include:
