Ruedi Reservoir boat access delayed until May 17

With over two weeks of improvement work expected, the popular boating spot’s ramp opening has been pushed back

The Ruedi Reservoir boat ramp, which typically opens by May 1 each year, will not open until May 17 this season.

The U.S. Forest Service attributed the delay to “heavy maintenance” needed to improve the boat ramp and parking area, which will take place May 1-16. According to a press release, the maintenance includes removing vegetation, sealing the lot, and repainting the lane strips for better ingress and egress.

“We appreciate people’s patience as we make these important improvements for the benefit and safety of the public,” said Aspen-Sopris District Ranger Kevin Warner in the release.

The release also noted that the work could be completed early; if so, the lot and ramp will open earlier than anticipated. The latest status can be found at fs.usda.gov/whiteriver.

Boat inspections are required to prevent the spread of zebra and quagga mussels, both invasive species, into Ruedi Reservoir. The boat inspection program is sponsored by the Ruedi Water and Power Authority, in coordination with Colorado Parks and Wildlife, the USFS, and the Bureau of Reclamation.

The 2025 hours for mandatory boat inspections at the Ruedi Boat Ramp will be:

  • May 17 to June 27: 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • June 28 to Sept. 1: 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Sept. 2 to Sept. 28: 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Sept. 29 to Oct. 12: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Oct. 13 to Oct. 31: 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
