Tony Award-nominated Joe Iconis and members of his New York-based Family Band performed a sneak peak of “The Unauthorized Untitled Hunter S. Thompson Musical” on Friday at the Wheeler Opera House in Aspen.

Best known for writing the Broadway musical “Be More Chill,” Iconis said he spent more than a decade working on the Hunter S. Thompson musical. The legendary figure behind Gonzo journalism, Thompson was a Pitkin County resident from the late 1960s until his death in 2005.

Friday’s one-night-only performance was limited to only the musical numbers. The show is set to run in full in Washington D.C. this summer.
