PHOTOS: Ski for the Pass returns as part of Ute Cup Nordic Series

The 13th annual Ski for the Pass was held Sunday, a cross-country ski race organized by the Ute Mountaineer as part of the Ute Cup Nordic Series. It is a benefit for the Independence Pass Foundation.

The 7-kilometer classic began at the winter closure gate outside of Aspen and finished at the turnoff to Lincoln Creek Road on Independence Pass.

First across the finish line was Aspen’s Peter Kling with a time of 35 minutes, 59 seconds. Aspen’s Michael Shea was second in 41:35, Basalt’s Andre Wille was third in 42:43, Aspen’s Pierre Wille was fourth in 43:24, and Aspen’s Indars Sparnins was fifth in 43:30.



Aspen’s Jenya Berino was the top woman, finishing sixth overall in 43:31. Carbondale’s Rachel Bachman Perkins was next, finishing eighth overall in 43:46, and third among women was Aspen’s Kristin Layne, who was 14th overall in 45:48.

There is one more scheduled race in the Ute Cup Nordic Series this winter, the March 10 Silverboom, a 10k freestyle.
