Aspen is preparing to host an electrifying debut for The Snow League, the newly launched professional snowboarding and freeskiing league founded by Shaun White.
To mark the occasion, six-time Grammy-winning hip-hop artist Big Boi will take the stage for a special live performance on March 8, following two days of high-stakes competition at Buttermilk Mountain, according to a Wednesday news release.
Big Boi, known for his commanding stage presence and as one half of the legendary duo OutKast, will headline the celebration of the league’s inaugural event. His performance will close out the historic weekend, which brings together some of the world’s best snowboarders for a competition that aims to redefine the sport.
“I couldn’t be more excited to have Big Boi join us for this milestone moment in snowboarding,” White said in the release. “Big Boi and I have known each other for many years, and his music, creativity, style, and passion align so perfectly with what we’re trying to create with this new league. I’m so pumped to have him there in Aspen, and I know both the athletes and the crowd will love every minute of it.”
Big Boi echoed that enthusiasm.
“Ayy, much love to my guy Shaun White for having me out in Aspen for The Snow League! That boy is a legend — it only makes sense for him to create an event like this,” Big Boi said in the release. “I’m looking forward to supporting him and bringing that ATL flavor up to the mountain.”
The competition, set for March 7-8 at Buttermilk Mountain at Aspen Snowmass, will feature elite riders including Ayumu Hirano, Maddie Mastro, and Mitsuki Ono battling for a share of a record-breaking $1.6 million prize pool.
With the promise of top-tier talent and an unforgettable musical finale, The Snow League is setting a new benchmark for professional snowboarding.
Tickets for the event, which include access to Big Boi’s performance, can be purchased at thesnowleague.com. Fans unable to attend in person can catch all the action live on Peacock, with coverage starting at 11:30 a.m. ET on both competition days.
Founded by White, The Snow League launched in June 2024 as the first professional winter sports league dedicated entirely to snowboarding and freeskiing.
The inaugural season features a four-event global competition, beginning in Aspen and continuing at top winter resorts worldwide. Men’s and women’s snowboard halfpipe competitions will be the focus of all four events, while freeskiing is set to debut later in 2025. Points accumulated throughout the season will determine the first-ever Snow League World Champion.
