Gov. Polis appoints new judge for 9th Judicial District

On Sept. 6, Gov. Jared Polis announced the new judge for the 9th Judicial District appointment.

Laura C. Makar was appointed to the 9th Judicial District Court, taking over for Judge Christopher Seldin, who chose not to stand for retention. Her appointment becomes effective on Oct. 5.

“I am so excited that I get to keep serving the community here in Pitkin County,” said Makar. “I’ve been in public service for a while here in Aspen, and I am thrilled that I get to do new and meaningful work.”



Makar has been a deputy county attorney for Pitkin County since 2018, focusing on civil litigation. Before that, she served as a senior assistant county attorney, and as an assistant county attorney.

“We all know that the people who live in Aspen really care about each other,” she said. “Being able to continue to provide a fair and impartial process for the residents of our community is really exciting.”




Earlier in her career, Makar worked as an associate attorney at Patrick, Miller & Kropf, P.C. Makar earned her bachelor’s from the University of Colorado in 2004 and her Juris Doctor from the University of Colorado Law School in 2008.
