Cornerstone Estate Management marks 30 years of service in Aspen

Cornerstone Estate Management is celebrating 30 years of business in the Aspen and Snowmass communities, having built a reputation for trust, integrity, and personalized service since its founding in 1995.

Originally established by a local contractor who recognized the need for high-level care of luxury homes post-construction, Cornerstone has grown into a full-service estate management firm.

Co-owners Jeremy Assalone and Matthew Morris took the helm in 2015, continuing the company’s commitment to excellence while expanding its services and fostering a strong workplace culture.

“The original founder, who was originally in construction, saw the need for a high-level care for these Aspen homes after construction was completed,” Assalone said. “There was no resource for that except for people calling their contractor and asking them to do more stuff post-construction.”

Today, Cornerstone offers comprehensive property management services, including maintenance, housekeeping, concierge, landscaping, construction oversight, and security for high-end properties. With a team of 65 full-time employees, the company prides itself on delivering seamless, top-tier service to its exclusive clientele.

Assalone and Morris have prioritized employee growth and retention, an impressive feat in a region known for its housing challenges and seasonal workforce. Many employees have been with Cornerstone for over a decade or more, some commuting daily from Parachute and Battlement Mesa.

“We are trying to grow the company and provide much bigger and attractive opportunities for employees,” Assalone said. “In this valley, we all know the housing crisis and seasonal nature of things can be challenging. We have really tried to overcome that at Cornerstone, even through the pandemic years.”

This commitment is reflected in the company’s employee benefits and culture, which Assalone describes as a cornerstone of their success.

“We take care of these high-end, high-net-worth clientele, but in the end, we are still a people-focused company,” he said. “We have expanded on our company’s benefit packages, enhancing our culture so that people want to work here, and we feel that somehow, despite the challenges of employing people here in the valley, we must be doing something right.”

Director of Human Resources Camilla Cohen echoed this sentiment, expressing gratitude to both employees and vendors.

“We have employees who have been with the company for a long time, and making the commute from as far away as Parachute and Battlement Mesa on a daily basis,” Cohen said. “I think that says so much about our company that we can create such a great destination for them, all the way upvalley.”

Cornerstone’s client managers serve as the primary point of contact for homeowners, handling everything from arrival preparations to organizing dinner parties.

“Our client managers are the ones communicating and coordinating—they’re like the speed dial for the clients,” Assalone said. “Clients will call the client managers when they are coming to town, have a question about the weather, need to relay the dates they will be coming to arriving, or if they want to have a dinner party on a certain date, and ask if we can arrange a chef or catering service? We do a high level of concierge service.”

Attention to detail is paramount at Cornerstone, ensuring that homes are perfectly maintained year-round.

“We make sure that the heat is running, making sure the snow loads on the roof are being managed,” Assalone said. “Regardless, we just make it happen so the owner doesn’t have to think about those things. The expectation is perfection.”

When clients arrive, every detail — from lightbulbs to remote controls — is checked and ready.

“Our clients show up and do not have to worry about anything home-related,” Assalone said. “They can simply enjoy their time in Aspen and hit the slopes, socialize, and entertain.”

Remarkably, Cornerstone has thrived without traditional marketing, relying solely on word of mouth and referrals from clients, builders, and realtors.

“We are not marketing machines,” Assalone said. “We do not have a line item in our budgets for marketing. Probably, our biggest marketing piece is from our clients referring us to their friends.”

As the company celebrates its 30th anniversary, Assalone and Cohen are planning a private celebration for employees to honor the company’s culture and the team’s contributions to its success.
