Colorado Highway 82 eastbound lanes south of Glenwood Springs from mile marker 5 to mile marker 6.5 are open as of 5:30 a.m. Monday. The westbound lanes remain closed with the goal of opening sometime today, according to a Facebook post from the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT).

CDOT said in a Sunday afternoon Facebook post that Colorado 82 would remain fully closed through the night and that they anticipate the highway will be fully open by noon on Monday. In the meantime, the department has asked commuters traveling westbound to take County Road 154 (Old State Highway 82 Bypass) as an alternate route. County Road 154 runs adjacent to the highway.

“Crews worked through the night loading material into seven dump trucks each making more than 40 trips to haul away the debris. It’s anticipated that the debris will be cleared by mid-morning. Crews will then need to scrap, wash and sweep the pavement surface to open the westbound lanes for safe travel,” CDOT stated in their Monday Facebook post.

The slides were initially reported on the Facebook page Roaring Fork Road and Weather around 8 p.m. Saturday.

All vehicles caught in the slide on Saturday evening have been recovered, and all drivers and passengers were safely evacuated last night with no injuries, according to the post.

Crews continue cleanup of the area with three front-loaders, a backhoe and nine trucks hauling debris. Commuters planning to travel between Glenwood Springs and Carbondale on Monday are urged to give themselves extra travel time.
