A new public works director has been hired for Basalt, the town announced on Wednesday.

Justin Forman, having served as Aspen’s utilities department director since 2023, will officially take on his role with Basalt on April 1. He has over 20 years of experience as an engineer and manager.

“I am honored to serve a world-class community and be able to support a great, hardworking staff,” Forman said in a news release.

Town Manager Ryan Mahoney said Forman stood out in a competitive field of applicants and a rigorous interview process.

“Justin will be a great addition to the leadership team in Basalt. His experience aligns well with our needs, and I know he will focus on maintaining a high level of service for the community,” Mahoney said in the release.

Basalt’s public works department oversees public streets, including maintenance, plowing, and stormwater systems; sidewalks; rights-of-way; parks; gardens; equipment; town property; facilities; and water infrastructure, according to the release.

The public works director oversees 10 employees who all prioritize excellent customer service and responsible management of town assets.
