Ballots for March 4 Aspen City Council election are in the mail

Ballots for the 2025 Aspen municipal election have been mailed to eligible voters as of Feb. 11, marking the start of the voting process for the March 4 election.

Aspen residents can vote by mail, in person, or by dropping off their ballot at the designated drop box outside City Hall at 427 Rio Grande Place.

Seven candidates are competing for two open seats on the Aspen City Council, while two candidates are running for mayor.

According to the city’s home rule charter, council candidates must secure 45% of the vote plus one to win, while mayoral candidates must receive 50% plus one. A runoff election is scheduled for April 1 if no candidate meets these thresholds.

Voter registration remains open until Election Day.

Eligible voters must be at least 18 years old and have established residency within Aspen city limits for at least 22 days. Registration can be completed online at http://www.govotecolorado.com or in person at the Pitkin County Clerk’s office.

Mail-in ballots must be received by March 4. Voters using the drop-off option are reminded that ballots are accepted only at the drop box outside City Hall and must be submitted by 7 p.m. on Election Day.

Ballots placed in the Pitkin County ballot box on Main Street will not be counted.

In-person voting at City Hall begins Feb. 18 and runs through March 3, available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

On Election Day, polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Voters casting their ballots in person must present a valid government-issued ID.

Registered voters who have not received their ballot by Feb. 24 are encouraged to contact the City Clerk’s office by calling (970) 429-2686 or visiting the office on the third floor of City Hall.

Those unable to vote in person can request an absentee ballot online at http://www.aspen.gov. Voter registration status and information updates can also be completed at http://www.govotecolorado.com.
