In a continued push for environmental awareness and community involvement, the city of Aspen is hosting its second annual Earth Week Exchange and Swap between 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, April 26, at the Aspen Fire Department at 420 E. Hopkins Ave.

The free event invites residents to donate gently used items and pick up new-to-them treasures at no cost.

“We are thrilled to host the Earth Week exchange and swap again this year,” Jimena Baldino, the city’s waste diversion and recycling specialist, said in a news release. “This event is a great opportunity for community members to come together, exchange goods, and learn about the environmental efforts that the city is working on. We look forward to seeing everyone there.”

The exchange is a cornerstone of Aspen’s Commit to Tomorrow initiative, which aims to build a more sustainable community through education, participation, and thoughtful action. At the heart of the swap is the concept of circularity, with the idea that extending the life of household goods — by passing them on to someone who can use them — helps reduce waste and promotes environmental stewardship.

Item drop-off begins at 10 a.m., one hour before the official start. Throughout the event, participants are welcome to bring in and exchange items such as books, clothing, small household goods, jewelry, games, home décor, artwork, and lightly used outdoor gear.

All items must be in good condition and no larger than a table lamp. The city notes that it will not accept furniture, electronics, or personal care products.

In addition to browsing and swapping, event attendees can enjoy complimentary food and drinks.
