Local students need not worry about X Games this winter — they will be attending for free.

In collaboration with X Games, Aspen Skiing Company (SkiCo) will give out 500 tickets on a first come, first serve basis to Roaring Fork Valley high schoolers at Buttermilk for each day with events. Non-student locals can also claim 50% discounted tickets online.

“These kids have grown up and have had access to this event forever, and this is a way to kind of acknowledge the popularity of X Games with the high schoolers,” said John Rigney, senior vice president of Events and Partnerships at SkiCo. “And to give them incentive to come on out and make a day of it.”

Students must show up in person at the base of Buttermilk with a valid student ID to get a General Admission ticket for the events on Thursday, Jan. 23, through Saturday, Jan. 25, 2025. Students can pick up tickets when the venue opens each day, according to SkiCo.

X Games will hold events and concerts from 5-11 p.m., Jan. 23; 10 a.m.-11 p.m., Jan. 24; and 10 a.m.-11 p.m., Jan. 25.

“I think it’s the biggest single sporting event in free skiing and snowboarding,” Rigney said, referring to X Games. “And the fact that these kids have it right in their backyard, year in and year out, is probably an immense source of pride”

Roaring Fork Valley locals can claim 50% discounted single and multi-day general admission tickets at xgamesaspen.frontgatetickets.com with the promo code found in the Sunday, Nov. 17, print edition of this story in The Aspen Times. There are a limited number of discounted tickets available, according to SkiCo.

A general admission ticket gives attendees access to all competitions, concessions, and the live music venue, among other events. X Games released their competition schedule and concert lineup for the event weekend in a Thursday press release:

— Jan. 23 will feature Women’s and Men’s Ski Knuckle Huck, Women’s Snowboard Big Air, and Men’s Snowboard SuperPipe. Electro-soul and hip hop producer Daily Bread will perform.

“We host a lot of events throughout the year, and our community is such an important part of making them a success,” said Deric Gunshor, senior director of Events at SkiCo. “It is important for us to ensure that our locals know about these tickets and have access to these options to attend.”
