Aspen City Council candidate Peter Fornell has withdrawn from the March 2025 election.

In a letter addressed to Aspen City Clerk Nicole Henning, Fornell thanked Henning for her assistance in accepting his application to run for city council.

“Unfortunately, due to personal and family-related matters, I have the difficult decision to withdraw my candidacy as an applicant for the position,” Fornell states.

Seven candidates remain who submitted petitions for city council.

The list includes Mayor Torre, who is termed out of his mayoral seat, Aspen City Council member John Doyle, who is running for reelection, as well as Christine Benedetti, Scot Woolley, Emily Kolbe, Tyler Wilkinson Ray, and Maryann Pitt.

Rachel Richards and Katy Frisch are the only two candidates who submitted petitions to run for mayor.
