CARBONDALE — The 5Point Film Festival will make its debut in Carbondale in May.
The festival, featuring adventure films, panel discussions and guest speakers, is set for May 8-10 at various locations in Carbondale . Julie Kennedy, former publisher of Climbing magazine, is the founder and festival director; Michele Cardamone is the festival’s program director.
Some 25 films will be screened at the new Carbondale Recreation and Community Center in the inaugural 5Point Film Festival. Guest speakers for the event include Erik Weihenmayer, known for being the first blind person to ascend Mount Everest, and surfer Gerry Lopez.
Also included are two panel discussions. Living Your Passionate Lifestyle with Your Children will feature several father-and-son pairs: climbers Mike and Tommy Caldwell; climbers Michael and Hayden Kennedy; kayakers Peter and Rush Sturges; and ski mountaineers Lou and Louie Dawson. The discussion will be moderated by Aspen Community School principal Jim Gilchrist. Living Passionately Through Adversity will feature local athletes Aron Ralston and Chris Klug, as well as surfer Britt Caillouette and Erik Weihenmayer, and will be moderated by Malcolm Daly.
The Independence Pass, which allows early access to all events and the VIP Hospitality Lounge, is available through April 4 for $300. To purchase the Independence Pass and for further information on the festival, go to www.5pointfilm.org.
